Live and Jive pinstripe demo 2010

Had a great time at Live and Jive this Year, I had the new Pinstripe Plant II book on hand and made some on the spot pinstripes on a few cell phones. I also broke out my new waterbased paints and did some pinstripe “tattooing”!

Sadly I missed the music again, but there was plenty of life around the booth. It was cool to get to meet Korena missylu who had the booth next to me She dose the handbags and is from Cali.. we are soon going to collaborate on a special line of pinstriped handbags! Some other vendor friends where there including Sixty Souls chopper and skate shop and of course Lowbrow Mag.

Still working on it !!! Got most of the black shading and outlines done in the last session, but there is more to come.. namely Pinstripes and text.

I was invited to follow along and paint a Hot Rod for Motorbörsgaraget on the Wheels Magazine Boat. I went with a gold stripe treatment to match the engine. Its a nice looking rod built with a personal touch (not to mention the striping) and is now up for sale ! Contact motorborsgaraget if interested..

Introducing one of our latest brushes…a “speed flat” with the same great Taklon hair as some of our other brushes.
We have fallen into a “gold mine” with this hair. The Golden Boys are great for lettering and fill work.

These brushes hold a lot of paint and have great control! You may have seen this brush in the “Gold Leaf” issue of Auto Art Magazine, used by Dick “Thinman” Crawford.
He has found this brush to be useful in laying down sizing when preparing for gold and/or silver leafing. He indicated that it allows the sizing to glide smoothly onto the surface.

Mystic design and color theories from 1915 by the signwriting master Frank Atkinson served as a guide on this one. So each color ended up being blended up special (plus a little extra for the passenger side )
I am not sure if the colors are exactly the way they should be but it is pleasing to the eye. The red that he called for was called Tuscan red which I checked up on and it is the color of old Pennsylvania railroad trains! kinda cool, the rest of the colors are various shades of olive green and buff.

2 Piece “Shop” Mahl Stick

Traditional Suede Mahl Stick Mahl sticks are designed to provide a bridge across vertical artwork so that an artist can rest his hand while painting in the details on their artwork.
This traditional style mahl stick has a tied suede ball at the end, to provide a non-slip, non-marring grip.

This Mahl Stick is made up of two sections which are easily skrewed together. Larger in size then the 3 piece travel Mahl Stick, this model is appropriate for larger working surfaces though can be preferred for smaller jobs as well due to the larger diameter resting ball which puts the hand at a further distance when the stick is held parallel to the painting surface.

Rockafella Sign

Here is a Sign I made for the Childrens Rockabilly clothing brand Rockefella! they requested a Sign painted to look old for use at fashion conventions. The layout and design was provided for me altough I favored my own lettering over the original font.
After I painted it all up the surface was heavily distressed and then hit it with my aging varnish mixed to matte to diffuse direct lighting.
Hope all the kid rockers dig it!

Here is a jacket I painted recently, the design is inspired from WWII nose art and those old bulldog tattoos. I keep the colors toned down and gave it a aged matte clear coat and look forward to seeing it after some use when the cracks set in…

Holiday shopping

Just want to let everyone know that I will be having the store open tomorrow 12-4, I will also be having the store open monday 12-6

(I will need to run to the post office but other than that I will be open, ring ahead if you want to make sure I am around)

As usual orders can be made on the webshop and picked up in the store if you like your stuff prepacked, this can save a lot of time especially with the Pinstripe kits. Also if you order via the webshop you have the option to pay with paypal, otherwise I take only take cash payments for instore sales.
