Bilsport Custom Motor show, Elmia 2010

The main attraction of this years show was the appearance of chip foose, Along with D´Agostino and the display of the late Boyd Cunningham’s last build.
Although the Custom art section was absent this year. That did hinder a fine selection of pinstripers from laying some wet paint to rest under the spotlights of the Elmia convention center, Jönköping, Sweden.

Tumba Hot Rod Show

The kids at the Tumba Speed Shop did a great job puting on this Classic Hot Rod Show and with the help of Wishbones car club you could say this was a grade “A” event !!

Of course the main attraction was the schools latest project, the Low riding Rat Rot pickup tuck. The school’s previous husqvarna bobber was also on display.

We also saw some familiar rods that have dawned some modifications since last season. Details, details, details ..

Yes sir the the day has come, your faithful editor’s article “Kustom Kulture Art Bash at the Lowbrow Shutdown” has hit the newstands!

Thanks goes to my good friends and Pinstriping & Kustom Graphics Magazine for the great layout and editing. As well as of course producing this keen publication! P&KG magazine truly a fine concourse of ideas, inspiration and direction. For fueling everyone from patrons of eye poping art to those Kustom masters or there aspirants, I gotta say this magazine is a fine achievement.

Hardly Regal

Patrik was by the Office the other day and showed off the latest addition his sportster, a bobber style seat that he built from skratch and covered himself! Another nice touch was the wrapped tail pipes which add to the black on black theme of the ride, And a more recent addition text has been added (which can be seen here …vonsven )

Check out the fancy stitching and custom coloring of the leather work.

Tini’s Tiki Weekend ‘08

Well I have to say once again Tini’s tiki weekend proved to be the Devils cure for my winter drudgery. Months with out sun, scaling the walls in the studio trying paint with pale white hands had worn on my artistic psyche . Yeah a trip over the water to Finland was in order.

I had a warm welcome at Tini’s meeting up again with all my Finnish striper friends in Tini’s Tiki style house. As usual we got to painting right of the bat and we also had a guest photographer from a local museum documenting the event for an up coming art exhibit on Custom Painting in Finland. Later the Curator of the show came be to hang out and aside from the fumes they seemed to enjoy the visit.

In honer of our friends from the museum everyone painted simultaneously on a tunk lid which can be seen in the found in the photos here. Thing got pretty crazy with that when people started striping on the same design, pulling cross overs and painting over each others brushes.

Among so many images and cryptic text the trunk was adorned with every kind of icon to kustom kulture art. Maybe a foreshadowing of the next arctic pinhead event coming up at the end April the annual Stiripe-O-Rama , which will have the theme “Kustom Kustom” this time around.

Pekka has extended an welcome for Swedish stripers to attend, although I have not recived the flyer to post as of yet the I can say the dates for the event are April 26 and 27th.

This Finnish Guy came in to the shop the other day and I managed snap a pic of his Awesome Pin-up Jacket! (click for a bigger picture) Not sure who the artist was but whoever it is really pulled pulled it off with some authentic nose art style, very cool!!

Rör Firma

Man, Stockholm has lost a time portal. This old plumbers shop I was lucky to stumble on, I discovered the first time about a year ago and now soon it will be gone for good lost to the progress.

I don’t know much about the late Rör Firma of Södermalm except that the first time visit I had to quick take pictures, which I am including here, I snapped these while I wondered in to the unmanned shop standing open.

I was running around looking fro pipe fittings for fixing a silent compressor fashioned from a refrigerator compressor, so that’s what brought me there. I did come back later that day and got to meet the owner and he directed me to a refrigerator repair shop down the street.

Now it was about a week or two ago, Piki Rods Mike and I where walking by the place again and seen that the place was beeing gutted out so told Mike we had to stop and see what was going on. I got pictures of the place, and we where told that the owner had died. It turns out he had been working there since he was a teenager. The place had already been sold to an architecture firm and no doubt will be remodeled, it is a sad shame. when entering this place I felt like I was entering a temple, a testament to the life of a worker. It was a beautiful site and hopefully these photos will relay some of the experience.

The Tudor Batteri Sign was handed down to me by a guy who works next door, He said it had been in the shop since the owner started selling Tudor brand batteries, 60 years ago..

Gunnars Garage and the Island of Oil

I am way behind on my posting and so the following photo set is from back in the summer time. The pictures are from my friend Annika’s dad’s garage and the short road trip we took with his car club, the Lowflyers to visit Oljeön and Engelsbergs Oljefabrik (“the Island of Oil” and Engelsberg’s Oil refinery).

The factory is the oldest preserved oil refinery in the world, it sits on a tiny island, and on a hot day the whole place stinks like gasoline. The tour was actually really cool ’cause there where all kinds of storys about the history of the island. Like how gas was a byproduct of the processing and sence the engine had not yet been invented yet was useless and dumped out back ! There where plenty more interesting facts about buildings blowing up, cancerous shoe shines and the man who was so oily he died, not a bad for a histoical tour.
